PC GuideRX 9070 GRE game benchmarks appear on AMD website, here’s how it compares to 9070 XT

Everything points towards AMD’s next Radeon GPU being the RX 9070 GRE. Specs for this 12GB card leaked online last week, and now, the GPU has officially been listed on AMD’s website – although only on the Chinese domain, which suggests that it won’t be getting a global release just yet, as expected. In any case, along with a full list of official specifications, AMD has also detailed some game benchmarks for the cut-down version of the RX 9070. Team Red claims that the RX 9070 GRE is 6% faster than the last-gen RX 7900 GRE, which did end up getting a global launch over half a year of exclusivity in China.

AMD shares native 1440p ultra benchmarks

AMD has shared eight game benchmarks, all of which target native 1440p performance at ultra settings. Since we’ve previously reviewed the RX 9070 XT, let’s take a look at where these results compare to our in-house benchmarks, where applicable, with any gaps filled by results from hardware reviewer TechPowerUp.
Game RX 9070 GRE RX 9070 XT
F1 24 214 FPS 131 FPS (Ultra high, Silverstone Wet)
God of War: Ragnarok 140 FPS 133 FPS
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered 126 FPS 161 FPS
Monster Hunter Wilds 80 FPS
Dragon Age: The Veilguard 91 FPS 92 FPS
Assassin’s Creed Mirage 127 FPS 146 FPS
Resident Evil 4 107 FPS (Ray Tracing) 152 FPS
Doom Eternal 182 FPS (Ray Tracing) 249 FPS (Ray Tracing)
You’ll notice one outlier being our F1 24 benchmark. Looking at another test from TechPowerUp shows an average of 221 FPS at 1440p, which is a closer comparison. For reference, we paired the 9070 XT with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D for our review benchmarks, as did TechPowerUp. Based on disparity like this, and no indication of AMD’s testing procedure, taking a look at AMD’s first-party benchmarks should be a better indicator.

The XT should no doubt outperform the GRE card on average. Back when the RX 9070 XT was unveiled, AMD claimed it was 38% faster than the 7900 GRE on average, which is a sizeable jump compared to the 6% when comparing the two generations of GRE cards (RX 9070 GRE to RX 9070 GRE). The Radeon RX 9070 GRE pre-sales have begun online at Chinese retailer JD, where it is listed for 4,499 RMB, the same as the RX 9070 non-XT launch price. This translates to around $615 USD. The card will start shipping on May 8th.
